Alaska National Parks - Overview

Glacier Bay National Park in Southeast Alaska is part of the International Biosphere Reserve and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is generally open to visitors from May to early September and only accessible by air from Juneau, Skagway and Haines or through a privately operated ferry system. Magnificent tidewater glaciers are descending from high snow capped mountains into deep fjords and numerous bays creating spectacular displays of ice and iceberg formations. Activities including cruise tours, kayaking, fishing, wildlife viewing and hiking.

Seward about 130-miles south of Anchorage, provides easy boat access to the Kenai Fjords National Park wilderness area with its magnificent tidewater glaciers, abundant marine wildlife observation, excellent sea kayaking, halibut/salmon fishing and Orca Whale watching opportunities. Another major local attraction is the Sealife Center on the shores of Resurrection Bay - the first cold water marine research institute in the world with aquariums, ocean rescue facilities and animal the rehabilitation center.

The Brooks Range stretches across northern Alaska for over 700-miles into Canada's Yukon Territory. The scenic wilderness area with mountain peaks exceeding 2700 meters is mostly uninhabited and limited access is only by car via the Dalton Highway or with private air charters. Highlights of a trip are: the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the Kobuk - and Noatak River Valleys, remote native settlements, the many designated wild & scenic rivers with outstanding river floating, fishing, camping and backpacking opportunities.

Visit Kodiak Island and experience wilderness unmatched in few places on the earth. The island is home to the mighty Kodiak Brown Bears - with a weight of over 1000 pounds - the largest species in the world. Our low impact bear viewing trips, many river camps and remote wilderness lodges are providing a safe opportunity for visitors and photographers to observe bears up-close-and-personal. Kodiak Island is also Alaska's premier destination for trophy size Halibut/Salmon sport fishing, hunting and hiking

Kluane National Park is together with the Wrangell St Elias National Park a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a bi-national park system which covers 21.980 square km within the extreme southwestern corner of the Yukon Territory. Immense icefields, high mountain ranges, lush valleys and a diverse array of plants and wildlife are dominating the area. The park is also home to Mt. Logan - with 5959 m Canada's highest peak. Activities included: hiking, mountain biking, fishing and rafting on the famous Alsek/Tatshenshini Rivers.

Denali is known around the world for its amazing scenery, the wildlife and towering 20.230 ft Mt.McKinley. The season lasts from June until early September each year. The 92-mile long park road parallels the Alaska Range and travels through low valleys and high mountain passes. It is the only road into the park and only accessible with the shuttle bus system. Along its route beautiful scenery may be seen at every turn and they are many opportunities to view magnificent Mt. McKinley as well as Grizzly Bears, Moose, Fox, Wolf and about 170 different bird species.

Katmai National Park and the famous Brooks River are one of the premier brown bear viewing areas in the world and are attracting many international visitors and photographers each year who are observing a large density of bears congregate to feed on salmon along the shores of Naknek Lake. The national park is only accessible with commercial air service from Anchorage and provides also outstanding trophy sport fishing, ranger guided walks and access to the Valley of 10.000 Smokes - an area with the largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century.
